The Great American Hamburger

Ingredients:
  • 2 1/4 lbs ground round, chuck, or sirloin
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted, or
  • 2 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp garlic salt
  • 1 Tbsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 6 slices (inch thick) Vidalia or other sweet onion (optional)
  • Iceberg lettuce leaves
  • Sliced ripe tomatoes
  • Sliced dill pickles or sweet pickles
  • Cooked bacon (2 slices per burger)
  • Ketchup, Mustard, and Mayonnaise

Preparation:

Mix ground sirloin, garlic salt, and pepper in larger bowl. Add to mixture 2 tablespoons of butter. Makes 4-inch round patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

Coat grill with olive oil and place patties on grill until cooked to desired doneness. Flip only once to achieve perfect grill marks.

For cheeseburgers, 6 slices (1/4 inch thick) sharp Cheddar cheese or Swiss cheese, or 6 pieces of Roquefort
