Brown Gravy

  • 8 oz. butter or margarine
  • 10 oz. all-purpose flour
  • 1 gallon plus 1 cup beef stock
  • 1 Tbsp plus 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black or white pepper image placeholder

Melt butter or margarine in stockpot. Blend in flour and cook on medium heat, stirring frequently until golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes.

Slowly stir in beef stock, onion powder and pepper. Blend well and bring to boil. Reduce heat. Simmer on medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened, 6 to 8 minutes.

Serve over mashed potatoes, noodles, rice, meat or poultry.
