Refried Beans

  • 1 cup beans
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups hot water
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • Pace picante sauce [to taste] image placeholder

Sort beans, taking out rocks and bad ones.

Rinse 3 times. Soak over night in 3-4 cups cold water.

Let stand at least 6-8 hours. Drain.

In large pot place soaked beans, 3 cups hot water and salt.

Simmer with lid on until desired tenderness 11/2 to 2 hours. After beans have cooked tender add the picante sauce and sugar.
