Cake: Cream sugar and shortening; add well-beaten eggs. Then add flour in which has been added salt and soda. Add milk and vanilla. Make a paste of cocoa, food coloring, and coffee; add to batter.
Bake in 2 prepared round cake pans at 350° F or 25 minutes. Icing: Mix all ingredients together until smooth. Spread on cooled cake.
