Cream butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until well blended. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture beating well. Form dough into 1 inch balls (if dough is soft, chill until firm enough to shape).
Roll balls into ground almonds; place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes or until no imprint remains when lightly touched in center. Remove from oven, gently press unwrapped kisses into center of each cookie. Cool on wire rack.
