Slice and core, but do not peel apples.
Half fill the crock pot with apples. Add the sugar, cinnamon and cloves. Then finish filling the crock pot with apples.
Cook on low with lid on 16 hours. Remove the lid.
Smash cooked apples with a masher. Turn crock pot on high.
Do not cover. Cook 1 hour. When cool, put mixture through a blender. Apple butter may be frozen or canned.
